Support groups enable women training for or working in high-wage, male-dominated occupations (nontraditional occupations for women) to connect with other women in the same or similar occupations. Support groups provide a forum for women to share their experiences and learn strategies to remain and advance in their jobs.

The groups are effective ways to help women who are isolated from other women on the job or do not have a network of friends or family supportive of their efforts to gain economic independence through work in jobs traditionally held by men.
