WOW has identified the primary barriers for women in nontraditional employment as:

- Transportation
- Lack of career information
- Sexual harassment
Women may face additional barriers such as:
- Housing health care
- Substance abuse
- Domestic and family violence
- Mental health
- Mentoring
- Literacy
- English as a second language
- Ex-offender
- Asset development
These and other barriers may be preventing you or a woman with whom you work from getting or keeping higher-wage jobs that can be routes out of poverty.
